Silage Judge Andrew Bayliss – winners announced

Andrew Bayliss of Newton of Millfield Farm & Starburst Herefords & Shorthorns,  after consistent wins in the Norgrass Silage competiiton, took his turn as judge for the North-East of Scotland for the 2011.

There were 32 entries from Black Isle to Kincardineshire. Two days of extensive on farm visits, several miles, and cups of coffee later, and the winners were finally announced.

Pit Silage Winner: was Mr. Michael Martin, Garguston, Muir of Ord, Ross-shire: Runner up: Anne & William Willis, Glasgoforest, inellar, Aberdeen, Best New Entrant: Mr. David Finlay, Elsick Estate, Newtonhill, Stonehaven.

Bale Silage Winner:  W & F Webster, Loanhead, Cornhill, Banff. Runner up: G & A Whitelaw, Greenmyre, Oldmeldrum,   Best New Entrant: Mr. K. Marshall, East Bogheadly, Rickerton, Stonehaven.

Young Farmer  winner: Mr. Eric Sim, Rorandle, Monymusk, Inverurie.  Andrew commented on the excellent quality of silage in the total area and that the competition was often very close between the competitors.
